Sr. Manager Public Relations – Boston, MA

The Public Relations Manager has responsibility for managing Iron Mountain’s public relations efforts, . This person will develop and execute an integrated public relations plan based on our marketing strategy and business objectives. The role requires careful cross company collaboration and will necessitate both strategic leadership and practical execution. The Public Relations manager has responsibility for managing both corporate and product PR programs, accountable for North American activities, but also responsible for collaborating with and advising international PR teams/agencies. Close collaboration will be required with Corporate Communication team members.


  • Successfully drive and execute public relations programs aimed at increasing awareness and preference for the Iron Mountain brand and its products and services

  • Assist in the development and execution of long and short-term PR plans

  • Set measurable program goals; analyze and report on progress

  • Develop and refine media/analyst-oriented messaging for Iron Mountain and products and services

  • Develop press opportunities for spokespeople to engage directly with the media including: interviews, press tours, speaking engagements, etc

  • Develop and maintain corporate-related media assets (i.e. backgrounders, executive bios, Q&As, talking points, press kits, etc.)

  • Write press releases, bylined articles, case studies, white papers and other communications as necessary

  • Support customer reference opportunities and programs

  • Serve as a key communications advisor to senior management, marketing leadership, product managers, investor relations and field management

  • Ensure Company spokespersons are media-ready with respect to messaging and interviewing techniques

  • Coordinate with our investor relations group to balance the customer and investor interests

  • Consult with marketing leaders and product management on PR programs to support their business objectives

  • Support Crisis Communications activities

  • Assist in the development of specific scenario-based crisis response plans

  • Support senior communication team members during crises by monitoring and measuring coverage and message-pull through, logging media inquiries, etc


  • This position requires a deep understanding of PR fundamentals, with the ability to advise management with confidence and successfully manage an external agency

  • Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal skills

  • Strong planning, management and organizational skills

  • Must be a self-starter, able to work autonomously with minimal guidance; and the flexibility to support a wide variety of internal clients.

  • Must have working knowledge of personal computing, using Microsoft OS, including Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook

  • Experience with common PR and research tools such as Cision and LexisNexis a plus

  • Experience with Web 2.0 communication vehicles also a plus

  • To advise others in media relations

  • Requires the ability to listen and understand business objectives, in order to prescribe appropriate media relations strategies; may require strong selling skills

  • Need to manage internal client expectations

  • Demonstrate solid judgment

  • Ability to communicate candidly and provide constructive criticism tactfully

  • Ability to build strong relationships internally, externally

  • Strong team player

  • Total travel: 10-15%, Overnight travel: 10-15%

  • Education / Experience: 4-year College Degree / 4 – 10 years
